Chapter Six
“I’m listening,” Sin said then, sitting on the end of the bed with her cover wrapped around her.
“I thought you’d might,” Tatiana replied, shaking her wings and sprinkling golden dust everywhere. She lowered to the ground, and her wings disappeared into her white toga.
“I was young, and naïve, so long ago. I made so many mistakes. With each of you. I know that. Now I want to make it right.”
“With another wish that put us all here to start with,” Sin said.
“Yes, but one that is of your choosing, instead of mine. One that will unlock what you want most, no matter what. Are you willing to grasp that? Are you willing to have a chance at happiness, even if I have to help?”
“I’ve got what I need right here, Tatiana. It will take some time, but we’ll work it out,” Sin said, meaning it. It wouldn’t be perfect, but she, Tobias, and Zuriah had broken through a barrier today. They’d make it, one small step at a time. Sin just kn—
“No you won’t,” Tatiana said, her face sad as she shook her head.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Zuriah asked.
“She will never be able to let go. Let me show you.”
“Please don’t,” Sin choked out.
“No choice, Cinder. They have to know, and you will never tell them. They don’t know that you are denying them ever truly gaining your love. Trust me.”
“Never,” Sin said.
“You will.” Tatiana shook her wand in the air and the room exploded into a rain of golden sparks. Magic ran up Sin’s arms as Tobias pulled her close and Zuriah came to her side. Sin struggled to breathe as the air grew thin around her, the room spinning out of control until, with another blast of light, it settled again. But she wasn’t in her apartment. She was no longer on Earth. She was floating, held by Zuriah and Tobias, above her old room in Charming’s castle. Sin whimpered when she saw herself cowering on the floor, naked, with a heavy black collar around her neck.
How happy she’d been to wear Charming’s collar. The original one had been a heavy circlet of gold and diamonds, with a ruby pressed at the center, at the base of her throat. In the back had been a delicate lock, and Charming had worn the key around his neck. That was until he’d taken it off and put her real collar on. The one that weighed so much and forced her to struggle just to hold her head up. The one that strained her neck until it ached and hurt so bad she couldn’t stop from making noise. Noise that she’d been punished for.
“This was her prison,” Tatiana said, flashing them through memory after memory. They watched, horrified, as Sin tried to keep up with Charming on her hands and knees, as he rushed through the castle. Watched as he locked her in a cage as he took women for her to see. Watched every single moment of her life with him, until Tobias was gripping her hard enough to make her cry out.
